The study authors, Reshma Ramachandran and Ashwin Chetty, warned that this limited oversight increases the risk of both medical and financial harm. They noted that because these online platforms often lack access to a patient’s full medical records, they cannot properly track other conditions or medications that might make the drug unsafe.
