US Health Officials Report First Deaths in Major Parasite Outbreak

Public health officials in Michigan confirmed on Monday that two people have died from cyclosporiasis. This is a significant development in what is now the largest outbreak of this intestinal illness in United States history. Cyclosporiasis is a disease caused by a tiny parasite that typically enters the body through contaminated food or water. While the illness is usually not life-threatening, it causes severe diarrhea, nausea, and other stomach problems.

According to a spokesperson for the Michigan health and human service department, both individuals who passed away had other serious health problems.
