President Donald Trump has nominated Dr. Heidi Overton to lead the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the government agency responsible for regulating food, medical devices, and medication. According to The Guardian Health, Trump described Overton as a "rockstar" who is prepared to deliver on his goals, which include faster approval for new medicines, lower drug prices, and major changes to how clinical trials are conducted.

Overton currently serves as the deputy director of the White House Domestic Policy Council. Her background includes medical training at the University of New Mexico and a doctoral degree from Johns Hopkins University. Before her current role in the White House, she worked as the chief policy officer at the America First Policy Institute, a conservative research group.
