Fighting Pauses Between U.S. and Iran Amid Ongoing Tensions

After two days of intense military action, the fighting between the United States and Iran appears to have paused. This recent series of strikes followed a period of high tension in the region, which included attacks on three commercial tankers in the Strait of Hormuz—a narrow and important waterway for global shipping. According to NPR, the U.S. military hit 170 targets within Iran, while Iran reported that it had targeted U.S. military bases located in the Gulf.

As the situation develops, the United States has made its expectations clear. Unnamed senior U.S. officials told Deutsche Welle (DW) that they are currently negotiating with Iranian leaders.
